Blues music was born in the deep agricultural lands of southern American. Conceived from deep ancestral heritage and shaped by diverse cultural and social influence, blues gained prominence throughout the various decades of recorded American music. With a structured formula that allows for infinite variety and creativity; blues music remains vital and foundational in all forms of popular songwriting and recordings. This show is dedicated to blues music, traditional and modern, and it’s influence on and in songwriting ,particularly in local songwriting and Canadian songwriters. As a traditional form of American music , blues is highly reflected in songwriting, especially in the folk songs that surfaced during the great folk revival in the 1960’s . Folk music used the blues’ formula and added the lyrical dimension of the english poets to expand the horizons of story telling which continues to have a lasting cultural impact.
About The Host:
Douglas McLean comes from a long standing love of popular music and blues. As a musician and songwriter himself, he is inspired and humbled by the song choices and the opportunity to play these songs for listeners on a weekly basis. McLean has been playing music professionally in blues and folk bands for close to six decades; he recorded his first album at age 22 and has recorded 5 albums since.
