District closes Silver Bridge after shift in bridge
The District of Muskoka has temporarily closed Silver Bridge in Bracebridge to both vehicle and pedestrian traffic after unusual issues were discovered during routine sidewalk maintenance. Town staff noticed difficulties clearing snow, which led to a further assessment by the District’s Roads Operations team. They observed a shift in the bridge that wasn’t present during its last inspection in November.
A Senior Structural Engineer has been called in to investigate the cause and recommend next steps. James Steele, Commissioner of Engineering and Public Works, emphasized the importance of public safety and reassured the community that updates will be provided as repairs are planned.
The District will continue to provide updates as the investigation progresses.
