Muskoka Algonquin Healthcare (MAHC) recently concluded 10 well-attended community engagement sessions, with 4 in Huntsville and 6 in Bracebridge. The MAHC says the sessions were instrumental in gathering insights that will shape the future of healthcare in the region. Discussions centered on crucial topics like bed and service distribution, patient transportation, healthcare professional recruitment, and dispelling misconceptions about hospital closures and privatization risks.

Participants received detailed overviews of the proposed healthcare model and engaged in open conversations about key issues. The sessions underscored the significance of community support services, emphasizing the need for accessible care both in hospitals and at home.

The MAHC says the proposed model ensures that both Huntsville and Bracebridge hospitals will specialize in different areas of care, aiming to enhance healthcare quality and meet diverse community needs with an array of new services.

Cheryl Harrison, CEO of MAHC says they have learned a lot about the necessity of robust community supports and reliable transportation, as well as the need for flexibility and the capacity to adapt as situations change. “While we have some work to do, we are dedicated to continuing these discussions and working together to build a healthcare system that truly serves everyone in Muskoka," she said.
