The property will be used at a habitat for species at risk
A major new piece of land is being protected in Muskoka. The Muskoka Conservancy has announced the acquisition of the 597-acre MapleCross–Fraserburg Nature Reserve, located in the hamlet of Fraserburg east of Bracebridge.
The property includes upland forest and wetlands that provide habitat for several species at risk, including the Midland painted turtle and the Eastern wood-pewee.
The land was once used as a hunt camp, but the conservancy plans to eventually add trails so the public can enjoy the area.
With the purchase, the Muskoka Conservancy now protects 62 properties across the region, totaling more than 6,700 acres of conserved land.
