46% increase in COVID cases in July
COVID-19 cases are on the rise in Simcoe-Muskoka, according to Sandy Cairns, Board member of the Simcoe-Muskoka District Health Unit.
In July’s District Health and Safety meeting, Cairns announced that a 46% increase in new cases was reported to the Health Unit in the week of July 3. The 330 new cases are up from the 226 cases reported in the week of June 26th.
Cairns adds, “The wave of COVID by more contagious Omnicron BA.5 is more transmissible. Extra protection eligibility for a second booster is available 5 months after the first booster.”
In the meantime, Cairns suggests, “continue to wash your hands and wear masks where possible.”
