Bracebridge Church Manse To Become Affordable Housing
A former church manse is set to become affordable housing in Bracebridge.
The move was made during the Town’s most recent general committee meeting.
The property is located at 89 Kimberley Avenue, adjacent to the Bracebridge United Church and was formerly used as the manse for the church.
In 2014, the Town bought the property for $324,000 with an eye towards potentially using the lot for downtown parking.
However, after speaking with the District about the ongoing affordable housing crunch in the region, Bracebridge decided it would be a better fit to allow the District to rent out the two storey brick building for low income earners.
Council was largely supportive of the move, saying it fit with priorities but acknowledged using it as affordable housing would draw less money than is currently being made through regular rentals.
Staff said they still need to discuss whether the building will house a single tenant or multiple tenants.
