The mayor of Bracebridge has let his feelings be known regarding a motion by the MAHC to push forward with redevelopment plans.

In a Facebook post, Bracebridge Mayor Rick Maloney strongly opposes MAHC's plan to advance hospital redevelopment without local doctor support. He insisted any South Muskoka Memorial Hospital model must align with physician endorsements.  He criticized the MAHC for disregarding south Muskoka stakeholders' concerns and proceeding with an unsupported plan, questioning MAHC's commitment to collaboration. He called for halting MAHC's current model work, citing lost trust and seeks intervention from local officials.

During yesterday’s Planning and Development Committee meeting, Bracebridge council responded to MAHC's unilateral decision to advance its proposal and initiated a motion for staff to explore adding conditions to the town's $10 million funding commitment and the MAHC’s assumption that the town’s financial commitment was guaranteed.

Maloney discussed potential district council involvement in the hospital redevelopment project with District Chair Jeff Lehman and other officials.
