Burk's Falls to leave economic development organization
The Village of Burk’s Falls is set to leave the Almaguin Community Economic Development organization or ACED, by December, citing concerns over membership fees and the distribution of services.
Mayor Chris Hope pointed out that Burk’s Falls pays $20,000 annually while other communities, like Powassan and Magnetawan, benefit without contributing.
ACED, which relies heavily on federal funding, recently introduced a “fee for service” model to address these concerns, allowing non-members to pay for specific services. While some municipalities are happy with ACED's support, Hope says that a more balanced approach is needed to ensure fair value for all.
