District Spends $40,000 to Pay It Foward
From ping pong to prom dresses, the District of Muskoka signed off on their Pay It Forward grants for 2018 on Monday night.
During their council meeting, some 27 applications were formally approved out of the record-setting 57 applications submitted. The total amount of the grants was $40,000.
The most substantial grants included $2,500 for the Clothes Closet in Huntsville, which provides free "shopping" for high school students in need of clothes/hygiene supplies. Another $2,500 was awarded to the Bracebridge Community Garden repair and extension project, and the same amount was given to Dollars for Dinners in Port Carling, which provides nutritional crockpot meals created for the West Muskoka Food Bank to hand out from October to April.
Other projects include $652 to purchase a ping pong table for the YMCA Gravenhurst, and $900 for Bring on the Prom in Bracebridge, which provides Grade 8 and 12 students ready-to-wear prom clothing.
