Fire Dept Recommends That Furnaces Get Checked Before The Heating Season
Muskoka Fire Prevention Officers are reminding residents in Muskoka to have their annual maintenance performed on their fuel-burning appliances.
Make sure furnaces and other fuel burning appliances are well maintained and inspected by a professional at least once a year.
Carbon monoxide (also known as CO) is a colourless, odourless, tasteless, toxic gas produced when carbon-based fuels are incompletely burned such as wood, propane, natural gas, heating oil, gasoline and charcoal and can only be detected with a carbon monoxide alarm.
The Fire Dept says it's the law to have an alarm installed near each sleeping area in the home or cottage.
The Fire Dept says a carbon monoxide alarm is a good second line of defense, but it's not a substitute for the proper care and maintenance of your fuel - burning appliances.
