Fire Dept. reminds residents that daytime burning is prohibited
The Huntsville/Lake of Bays Fire Department is reminding residents that 22% of wildfires are caused by humans, and urge residents to be cautious with campfires and follow the Outdoor Burning By-law to prevent forest fires and property loss.
From April 1 to October 31, daytime burning is prohibited. Safe campfires are allowed from 6 p.m. to 8 a.m., and no fires are allowed when the Fire Danger Rating is set at Extreme.
The Fire Dept. says you should only burn clean, dry wood or charcoal/briquettes—never construction garbage, treated wood, or garden waste.
Recreational fires should be 2 feet by 2 feet, while non-recreational fires should be 6 feet by 6 feet, with ample clearance from buildings and materials.
Always monitor your fire and have tools nearby to extinguish it completely before leaving.
