Gravenhurst Bank Closure Will Not Affect Tax Payments

The Gravenhurst Council announced the bank closure of their previously appointed National Bank of Canada, on 395 Muskoka Road South, in the meeting on July 19, 2022.

The bank activities will be transferred to 487 Bayfield Street in Barrie on August 12, due to a significant drop in counter transactions, with a 20 per cent decrease. Online and mobile transactions have increased, representing 80 percent of users.

An automated banking machine will remain at the previous Gravenhurst location, allowing for deposits, withdrawals, and bill payments.

The closure has forced the Council to seek out other options for banking needs, and they have appointed Scotiabank.

Ross Jeffrey, Town Treasurer, said, “Scotiabank can meet our needs and are willing to, and are going to transfer to this with no disruption.”

Jeffrey reassured members that public transactions, such as paying taxes should happen without any issues, saying, “There shouldn’t be any change to paying taxes. Anyone can pay online at this bank, so no change at the service level at this point.”
