Group Calls For Province To Close At Grade Intersections On Hwy 11
A group of concerned citizens wants to see big changes to Highway 11 between Bracebridge and Huntsville.
A new grouped called Safer Hwy 11 Muskoka is petitioning the government to close all at grade intersections along that strip of highway.
The group is comprised of Muskoka residents, cottagers and businesses and according to their data, the stretch of Hwy. 11 between Bracebridge and Huntsville has seen 670 accidents in the past decade. The group says many of those accidents are the result of at-grade intersections that force vehicles to cross lanes with cars traveling more than 100km/h.
Organizers say that 10 years ago the government committed to replacing the at-grade intersections with overpasses and other improvements. However, they say nothing has happened in the last 10 years.
They are currently asking concerned citizens to join their campaign, sign their online petition and send a letter that they will draft and present to the Ministry of Transportation. They have more information on their website at saferhwy11.nationbuilder.com.
