Huntsville starts road side mowing - encourages residents to tape off areas of milkweed

Starting next week, roadside mowing operations will start in Huntsville to maintain sightlines and improve drainage. This annual activity, managed by the Town’s Operations Department, helps ensure clear visibility for drivers and pedestrians at intersections and driveways, while also aiding in drainage from roadside ditches.

Residents are encouraged to identify milkweed plants along roadsides using yellow ribbons to help protect them from mowing. Milkweed is crucial for Monarch Butterflies as a food source and breeding habitat.

The Monarch Butterfly is classified as a species of "Special Concern" by Environment Ontario, underscoring the importance of preserving milkweed habitats during roadside maintenance activities.
