MAHC Defends Plans To Close Huntsville COVID-19 Assessment Centre
Natalie Bubela, the CEO of Muskoka Algonquin Healthcare responded this morning to concerns leveled by Huntsville Mayor Karin Terziano over the closing of the Huntsville COVID-19 assessment centre.
Bubela says that the MAHC has not been responsible for the operations of the COVID-19 assessment centres since they opened on April 1st which were staffed and operated by the Algonquin Family Health Team and the Cottage Country Family Health Team in Huntsville and Bracebridge.
Bubela maintains that once the decision to close the existing testing centres were made by the Family Health Teams, the MAHC stepped up to provide the service in Muskoka at the South Muskoka site in a standalone outbuilding. Bubela says the building used in Huntsville, will be occupied by the Northern Ontario School of Medicine which is resuming operations. She says there is no extra standalone space or staff for another assessment centre in Huntsville.
The statement comes in her blog, after Huntsville Mayor Karin Terziano questioned the MAHC’s commitment to acute care – asking if the closure was “one more thrust in the ‘death by a thousand cuts’ to healthcare in Huntsville.”
