MAHC makes changes to future hospital plans

Posted: 2024-04-09 07:42:09 By: thebay

Muskoka Algonquin Healthcare (MAHC) is updating the community on changes to its hospital proposal, following collaborative efforts with healthcare planning consultants.

Key changes include expanding acute care beds at South Muskoka Memorial Hospital (SMMH) and preserving obstetrical services. Additionally, they have made improvements to patient transportation and operational efficiency resulting in fewer patients needing transportation due to changes in bed allocations.

MAHC is engaging with physicians to ensure the success of the revised plan, followed by broader discussions with healthcare teams, partners, and the community. Impact assessments on funding are also underway.

Chuck Wertheimer, Senior Principal, RPG Consultants says “After thorough analysis and engagement, it's clear that the newly revised plan represents the maximum possible adjustments within the constraints we face. Any further shifts would render the model unsustainable and jeopardize the project's viability, given the fiscal realities and Ministry guidelines.”
