Despite a call from Muskoka Parry Sound MPP Graydon Smith to continue consultations with stakeholders, last night Muskoka Algonquin Healthcare (MAHC) approved a motion calling for detailed planning for the redevelopment of its hospital sites in Bracebridge and Huntsville. The MAHC says the decision directs consultants to refine the Stage 1.3 proposal for submission to the Ministry of Health in November 2024.

Dave Uffelmann, the new Board Chair, expressed confidence in the proposed plan, stressing ongoing engagement to address concerns and integrate community perspectives.

Meanwhile Smith reacted to the decision, saying he is disappointed to see that MAHC proceeded to pass the motion, albeit with an added component to establish a working group tasked with addressing concerns over beds and transportation issues.  “The proof is in the pudding,” he added.

The MAHC says the redevelopment aims to enhance healthcare services across Muskoka by expanding acute care beds, maintaining ICU capabilities, and improving emergency departments and specialized care units and ongoing stakeholder dialogue will ensure that final plans reflect community needs.
