Mayor's Bike Ride returns on June 15th
The 6th Annual Mayors Bike Ride will be held on Thursday June 15th, announced Huntsville Mayor, Nancy Alcock, in the May 23, 2023, Council Meeting.
Everyone is welcome to attend the 10km ride that will be about an hour long.
There will be three routes, which will include a mountain bike route, one through town, and a longer 20km route.
Alcock, said, “It’s promoting active transportation, physical activity and a healthy way of living, and to see what cycling through your Town would look like.”
Another goal of the event is “to purchase bikes and helmets for kids in need,” expressed Alcock. She said they have raised enough to get six of each so far.
Alcock added, “Staff are working hard to make it different this year because we have sponsors this time.”
There will be signage for the sites and to showcase the sponsors.
Director of Financial Services, Julia McKenzie, advised that Recreation Manager, Trish Conley-Knight, “will be looking after it if you want to sponsor” or for more information.
The Town is hoping for a great turnout this year. Alcock said, “I’m hopeful we will get over 100 participants… I’m excited and hope as many people as possible will come out.”
The event is in partnership with Sportlab and other community groups to be announced.
Pre-registration is recommended. To register, you can visit the Town’s website at Huntsville.ca on the Recreation and Leisure Highlights page to save time, or you can do so in person when you arrive at the event.
Councillor, Scott Morrison, said, “I want us to do a way better event than Aitchison had. Let’s do better.”
