Near North School Board questions move to consolidate school boards
The Near North District School Board (NNDSB) has passed a motion urging the Ministry of Education to review its four-school board system to enhance resource allocation for students, staff, and schools.
Introduced by Trustee Bill Steer, the motion calls for a study to identify efficiencies and cost savings, aiming to foster a more inclusive and effective educational system akin to reforms in healthcare.
Board Chair Ashley St. Pierre emphasized the importance of equitable learning environments. Steer clarified saying, “We are not suggesting how many boards there should be; we simply ask for a comprehensive consultative study to explore opportunities for cost savings and efficiencies, ensuring that all students, regardless of background, benefit from an inclusive educational delivery system that recognizes existing Charter and Constitutional rights.”
