One person dead after ATV roll over

Saturday September 16th at approximately 4:30pm Kearney Fire and Emergency Services along with Parry Sound EMS and OPP were called out to a single vehicle ATV rollover on Rain Lake Road. 

Upon arrival it was discovered a Polaris Razor four seater ATV was travelling West on Rain Lake Road. While making evasive actions the operator lost control and left the road and travelled through the ditch rolling and flipping several times when eventually landing on its side. Three of the four occupants were able to self extricate and make it back to the road with minor injuries. The fourth person has to be extricated from the ATV with serious life threatening injuries.

A 39-year-old person from Hamilton, Ontario, was airlifted to a hospital where they succumbed to their injuries.

Further to the investigation, the driver, 35-year-old Julian Desrochers, from Burlington, Ontario was arrested and charged with:

  • Operation causing death
  • Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration 80 plus

The accused was held for a bail hearing held yesterday.
