Police remind drivers of changes to careless driving laws
OPP in Huntsville are reminding drivers about an important change to the Highway Traffic Act.
Police say that as of December 2024, careless driving laws now apply not only to roads and highways but also to parking lots.
This means drivers can face fines, demerit points, license suspensions, and even jail time if they are found driving carelessly in a parking area. Fines range from $490 to $2,000, with penalties increasing in construction and safety zones.
Police urge all drivers to stay alert and drive responsibly to keep roads and parking lots safe for everyone.
