Project Atlas prevents major cryptocurrency fraud
The Ontario Provincial Police's Cyber-Enabled Fraud Team, along with international partners, has prevented over $70 million in cryptocurrency theft and frozen more than $24 million in fraudulent losses through Project Atlas.
Police say the initiative targeted organized fraud schemes and identified over 2,000 cryptocurrency wallet addresses linked to victims in 14 countries, including Canada, the U.S., and the U.K.
The OPP credited key collaborators, including the RCMP, the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre, and global law enforcement, along with private-sector partners like Coinbase and Shakepay, for their vital support in tackling these scams.
