Sledders urged to prioritize safety
Ahead of Ontario Snowmobile Safety Week, the OPP and the Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs (OFSC) are urging riders to prioritize safety.
Over the past decade, 145 snowmobilers have died in OPP jurisdictions, with excessive speed, alcohol impairment, and inattention being major contributing factors.
Nearly 40% of fatalities occurred on frozen lakes and rivers, highlighting the dangers of riding on uncertain ice.
Riders are advised to stay off frozen waterways and use the OFSC Interactive Trail Guide for real-time trail updates.
Ontario Snowmobile Safety Week runs from February 10-17.
