Spring thaw brings drainage concerns and road restrictions
With warmer temperatures and melting snow, drainage issues and road conditions are top concerns across Muskoka.
The District is urging residents to help prevent flooding by keeping catch basins clear of ice and debris. These grates direct excess water into stormwater ponds, reducing road flooding.
Meanwhile, half-load restrictions will take effect starting Saturday, March 1st in Muskoka Lakes, and on Monday, March 10 in Lake of Bays, to protect roads during the vulnerable spring thaw. Other municipalities haven’t announced dates, but will place half load restrictions as well.
These limits help prevent damage from heavy vehicles and typically remain in place until late May.
