Hunters Bay Radio, The Bay 88.7FM Holds Its Annual Radiothon

Posted: 2019-09-11 14:48:54 By: hbr

Hunters Bay Radio is holding our 5th annual Radio-thon. Our mission is to raise money to purchase new, much-needed equipment upgrades, to help us better serve the community.

As you may know, Hunters Bay Radio is Muskoka’s ONLY locally-owned radio station and is not-for-profit and  more importantly, owned by the community.

We’re celebrating our 10th Anniversary this weekend and are raising funds to replace our aging equipment. In addition, we recently suffered a substantial loss due to an arson fire at the facility that houses our transmitter.  Damages are in the tens of thousands of dollars and we are still working to resolve issues.

We rely on advertising sales and donations from businesses and the community to operate 7 days per week, 52 weeks of the year. We genuinely serve Muskoka and Almaguin Highlands. As a community-owned and volunteer-based radio station, our mandate is to raise funds for worthy causes within the community. In the last 2 years, we have donated approximately $100,000.00 -- money we can’t use ourselves to fund our own operations.

Run by 60 volunteers, our mandate is to provide local programming, local, national, and international news, all originating from our studio here in Huntsville, with a satellite studio at Sawdust City Brewing Co. in Gravenhurst. We dedicate a portion of our broadcast week to spoken word programming and as such, we ensure that we focus on local artisans, musicians, community groups, and businesses.

3 years ago, we launched our Super Jackpot Radio Bingo broadcast and as a result, we've donated nearly $150,000.00 back into our community. Again, we exist to give back!
