Two more snowmobiles go through the ice
On Saturday, Haliburton OPP responded to a distress call after two snowmobiles went through the ice on Gull Lake in Minden Hills Township.
One driver managed to get out of the water, while the other stayed on the ice.
Despite efforts from Good Samaritans, a rescue was unsuccessful until the Minden Fire Department, using a rapid deployment craft, reached the riders 800 feet from shore.
Thankfully, neither rider was injured.
OPP and emergency services urge caution, as ice can be deceptive and snowmobiling over frozen water poses significant risks.
Always check ice thickness before venturing out.
