Wave of nostalgia headed for Bracebridge
With the Delorean, the Mouth of the South and the Power Rangers all under one roof, who knows what could happen at the first ever Muskokacon Comic and Toy Convention.
The event is set to take place Aug. 4 at the Bracebridge Memorial Arena and organizers have turned the nostalgia factor up to 11.
The featured guest for the event will be comic book writer Chris Claremont. Claremont is best known for being the writer of the Uncanny X-Men from 1975 until 1991, far longer than any other writer for the series. During his time with the series, X-Men became one of Marvel Comics most popular series. He's also credited with helping to create a slew of notable characters including Rogue, Mystique and Sabertooth.
Other guests from the world of comic books will include Robbi Rodriguez (co-creator of the Spider-Gwen character), Richard Comely (who began publishing his Captain Canuck comics in 1975), and Leonard Kirk (whose artwork has appeared in Supergirl and Batman to name just a couple of many publications).
Famous vehicles will also be on display, including the Delorean from Back to the Future, Herbie the Love Bug (which is actually a 1963 Volkswagen Beetle) and Baby from the TV Series Supernatural (a 1967 Chevy Impala).
From the world of professional wrestling, Jimmy “the Mouth of the South” Hart is set to make an appearance. Always flamboyant, Hart and his trademark bullhorn were a hallmark of WWF wrestling in the 1980s.
Another star of the same era, Luke Williams (one half of the tag team wrestling duo known as The Bushwhackers) will also be on hand.
Two stars of Power Rangers Dino Thunder - Jeff Parazzo and Kevin Duhaney - will be in the arena as well.
Sci-fi fans won’t be left out either, as the Dalek, of Dr. Who fame, will be on hand courtesy of the Dr. Who Society of Canada.
Doors at the Bracebridge Arena open at 10 am and the show ends at 6 pm.
