John Sailors & Michelle Ainsworth

John Sailors is a Moose Cree First Nations Indigenous Artist and award winning documentarian residing in Emsdale, Ontario.  He was born on a reservation in Moose Factory Island. He moved to the Muskoka area as a young child. John’s childhood was spent between Muskoka and the reserve.

John is a public speaker and presents on Indigenous topics. He is a radio host on Hunters Bay Radio, hosting “Retro Future Radio”. He is also an actor and was in two plays at the Algonquin Theatre: “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest” and “Of Mice and Men”

As an Indigenous Artist, John creates images based on representations of the Grandfather Spirits of each animal. In John’s culture, every animal has a spirit and his work is inspired by this and the beauty of every living thing.

Michelle Ainsworth is a Community Developer who works in the Developmental Services Sector she is also a college advisor at Durham College in the Animal Care Worker department. She is the founder of Muskoka Animal Rescue, the co-founder of the Muskoka Vegetarian Association. She is the recipient of a YWCA Women of Distinction Award for Community Development and Social Activism, in addition to other awards and nominations for the work she does in the community. She is passionate about human and animal welfare and has been a dedicated volunteer in some capacity within those fields since she was 13 years old. She lives and breathes music and as an Autistic woman she has always been extremely focused on musical facts and details. Her passion for music from the 70's, 80's and 90's makes being a host on Retro Future Radio a perfect fit for her. Michelle believes strongly in the power of creating strong and inclusive communities which is why she feels so grateful to be part of Hunters Bay Radio as she loves to spread the word about how inclusive and welcoming the station is to people of all abilities.
