Bracebridge Council was informed that the Bracebridge Public Library is encouraging members to borrow books to help with the upcoming move, in the May 15, 2024, meeting.

Library board member and Councillor, Don Smith, advised that the Carnagie library has plans for a smooth transition during its closure coming up this summer.

He said that library staff are currently busy with packing and preparations associated with the move to the new Coulson Family Bracebridge Library.

Smith added, “Members are encouraged to borrow up to 100 books and puzzles.” Members can return the items from the old facility to the new one, which will help library staff with the transition of the items.

“The final day for the use of the Carnagie Bracebridge Library building is Saturday July 6th,” advised Smith.

He added, “The community and Councillors are asked to put this date in your calendars, to pop by and join library staff in celebrating the long usage of this facility as a cornerstone of the Bracebridge community since 1908.”

The library will also be hosting programing at various sites throughout the Town, which will be announced soon on their website and social media.

Smith indicated that the library has also installed two new software packages. “One for booking rooms in the new facility and one that will embrace the ability of the library to take programing to the community.”

He also indicated that the board recently toured the new Colson Library to see the progress.

Mayor, Rick Maloney, inquired about whether Smith had a snapshot of members of the library board’s faces upon seeing the new facility “because I’m sure it was like all of us seeing it as jaws dropped.”

Smith indicated that the usage of the library continues to thrive, “most notably with the addition of 165 members in the past month.” He added That brings the total of memberships in the library to just in excess of 1100.”
