Bracebridge Mayor Takes Aim At School Board
Bracebridge Mayor Graydon Smith didn’t pull any punches recently when it came to his thoughts on the Trilliums Lakelands School Board.
Smith’s takedown of the local school board came during a discussion of funding for a new lighting board at the Rene Caisse Theatre.
Council heard that the existing board is on the fritz. Bracebridge and Muskoka Lakes Secondary School and the school board, who technically own the theatre, have a lighting board but they aren’t willing to share it with the Bracebridge Arts Council, who run community theatre and events out of the space and built the theatre.
CAO John Sisson said for 12 years the Town has been stonewalled every time they attempt to cooperate with the school board on anything related to the theatre.
Mayor Smith went a step further, calling the board's behavior atrocious.
“It’s beyond ridiculous,” he said. “They show a complete and utter contempt for this community. They give nothing back and I can give you 10 other examples.”
The town agreed to pay for a new lighting board, with the BAC repaying through ticket sales.
