Dr. Charles Gardner, Medical Officer of Health at the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit, announced his retirement yesterday, effective September.
With over two decades in public health, Dr. Gardner has led the region since 2005, including guiding the response to the H1N1 outbreak and COVID-19 pandemic.
The health unit will now begin the search for a successor and plan a celebration in his honor.
