Councillors Thinking Of Alternatives To Road Salt
We may be in the midst of an extremely hot summer but Huntsville Councillors are already beginning to discuss road maintenance for winter.
Councilor Thompson said that a number of months ago, they received a report that road salts are having a harsh impact in the surrounding environments where they are used. He also said that they will be looking into other safer options, but for now road salts are the most efficient way of controlling ice on roadways.
Road salts are known to damage bark on nearby trees and can break down in the soil also preventing them from absorbing enough water.
