Councilors To Hear About New Municipal Accommodation Tax
Huntsville council meets tonight and will hear a report from staff on the new Municipal Accommodation Tax. The new tax, if accepted by the town would charge a percentage to all rooms being booked in the municipality whether at hotels, motels, B&B's and other accommodators.
The rate has not been set, but other jurisdictions are taxing at 4% in addition to HST.
The town would use 30% of the funds collected to be spent on future Tourism and Economic Development related projects.
The meeting takes place at 7pm, inside council chambers.
