District applauds significant progress as clear bag program kicks off
Muskoka’s new Clear Bag Program kicked off on March 3, and early results show significant progress in reducing waste. According to district staff audits from the first week, around 60% of households participated, leading to a 39% drop in garbage collection and a 23% increase in organic waste collection.
The initiative has also prompted more than 215 new green bin requests, helping to cut greenhouse gas emissions and extend landfill capacity.
Officials are encouraging residents to keep up the momentum in the weeks ahead.
