District councilors debate wording on population growth
Muskoka District Council debated the wording of a motion on the District Growth Strategy report at their December 16 meeting.
Councillor Don Smith proposed changing "endorse" to "receive," arguing that endorsing the report would imply approval of the projected 50% population growth by 2051, which he felt should wait until current issues like housing and healthcare are addressed.
However, other councillors, including Gravenhurst Mayor Heidi Lorenz, supported "endorse" as a planning tool.
The motion passed with a small majority voting against Smith's amendment.
