District declares Significant Weather Event
The District of Muskoka has declared a significant weather event for all District roads as a major ice storm moves in. A freezing rain warning from Environment Canada is in effect, with significant ice buildup expected throughout the weekend.
Residents are urged to avoid all unnecessary travel as road maintenance crews work to manage the hazardous conditions.
The District says that declaring a significant weather event allows crews to adjust operations and bring in additional support from across the District as needed.
James Steele, Commissioner of Engineering and Public Works, says keeping vehicles off the roads is essential to ensure safety and allow crews to respond more effectively.
The declaration applies to all District roads, while individual towns and townships may issue their own weather event declarations.
