Fire causes $700K damage

The Gravenhurst Fire Dept responded to a house fire on Sunday evening, rescuing a dog from the backyard of a burning house. Responding to the emergency on Bethune Drive the Fire Department deployed seven firetrucks and approximately 25 firefighters to combat the flames.
Arriving just before 10 p.m., crews discovered the occupant was not home, but a dog was trapped in the backyard. With quick action, firefighters and OPP officers successfully rescued the dog.
Firefighters continued to battle the flames until about 5:30 a.m. There were no reported injuries, but the damage is estimated at $700,000.
An investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing, although authorities do not consider it suspicious.
