Fire Danger season begins

Posted: 2024-04-01 09:58:47 By: thebay

A Muskoka-wide fire danger season began today. The Muskoka Association of Fire Chiefs convenes daily until Oct. 31 to assess the fire danger the need for rating changes.

Ratings range from low to extreme and are determined using the Fire Weather Index system, considering temperature, humidity, and input from the MNRF.

As temperatures rise, fire departments gear up while advising caution when having a fire, including never leaving fires unattended, keeping water and tools nearby, and checking the fire danger rating before lighting any fire. Best practices also include maintaining a safe distance from structures, using only dry wood, and ensuring fires are completely extinguished before leaving the area.

Currently, the fire danger rating is set at low.
