Flood Threat Escalates Over The Weekend
Over the weekend, Bracebridge Mayor Graydon Smith called the flood an “historical event” that has surpassed high water levels of 2013. In addition, Smith called in the military to help with relief efforts. About 60 reservists arrived on Sunday to take over sandbagging operations from local volunteers.
In Huntsville, Mayor Scott Aitchison said that water levels are expected to stay high for a least a week before seeing any noticeable reduction in water levels.
On Sunday, Muskoka Lakes Township declared a state of emergency as high water and ice began to take their toll on the community.
Later in the day, the District declared an emergency and activated their Emergency Control Group.
Environment Canada says mother nature may have other plans for the area with rain in the forecast.
