Food Insecurity A Concern In Bracebridge
Bracebridge council would like to see more done to tackle the problem of food insecurity.
During their last council meeting, councillors approved a motion that calls for more action to reduce household food insecurity in Bracebridge.
Food insecurity is the state of being without reliable access to a sufficient quantity of affordable, nutritious food, and it’s a matter that’s been brought before council by the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit before.
Councillor Steve Clement, who brought the motion forward, said the problem is all around us here in Muskoka. He said not only does food insecurity put the individual’s health at risk it costs taxpayers money, as those with food insecurity issues typically require more health services.
He said other ways the municipality can help are by attracting more business to town, building affordable housing and continuing to enhance the public transit system.
