Ford sends congratulations to president-elect, promises to protect Ontario jobs
Premier Doug Ford issued a statement yesterday, ahead of U.S. President-elect Donald Trump’s inauguration, congratulating him and Vice-President-elect JD Vance.
Ford emphasized the potential for a strong U.S.-Canada partnership, which he called "Fortress Am-Can," driving economic growth and prosperity. However, he warned against the threat of a trade war, saying tariffs could harm American and Canadian workers, benefiting China instead.
Ford vowed to protect Ontario’s workers and businesses, supporting federal retaliatory measures if necessary.
He expressed hope for a constructive relationship with the incoming U.S. administration but promised to fight for Ontario if tensions escalate.
