Huntsville Council considers cameras to counter vandalism

Posted: 2024-09-10 14:40:34 By: thebay

At yesterday’s council meeting, Huntsville Council agreed to explore surveillance options for River Mill Park due to ongoing vandalism issues. Staff have noted repeated vandalism at the park, costing the town significant funds.

Recently installed self-cleaning bathrooms, funded partly by a $300,000 donation, have also been targeted. Councillor Jason FitzGerald expressed frustration and suggested improving lighting alongside installing cameras to better identify offenders.

Mayor Nancy Alcock mentioned similar issues with lighting at the Summit Centre. FitzGerald also proposed public education to highlight the costs of vandalism.

Staff will investigate surveillance and report back to the Council soon.
