Huntsville ratifies 10.68% tax increase

The Town of Huntsville ratified its 2024 budget, at last night’s council meeting, with a tax rate increase of 10.68 percent. For a home assessed at $300,000, this translates to an additional $137 per year.
The increase is attributed to higher inflation, population growth, increased utilization of town facilities and services, more staff, along with the absence of one-time COVID-19 funding.
The overall budget now stands at $21,991,439, reflecting a 13.31 percent increase from the 2023 figure of $19,408,056. This total is divided between the approximately $15.1-million operating budget, covering expenses like maintenance and services, and the $6.9-million capital budget designated for acquiring new assets and replacing outdated ones.
