Liberal candidate dumped after party learns candidate's views on homosexuality
Less than a day after the Liberal Party announced Barry Stanley as the candidate in Parry Sound Muskoka, Steven Del Duca, the leader of the Liberals confirmed that his party has dropped him after learning of a book published by Stanley detailing scientifically baseless views on homosexuality.
Del Duca says the party condemns Stanley’s views and says they won’t accept candidates with a history of homophobia or bigotry.
Andrea Ernesaks, a spokeswoman for the party says Stanley did not disclose the existence of his book to the party's vetting team.
Media reports published yesterday described a book self-published by Stanley that suggests homosexuality “may also be caused by depleted rebreathing occurring shortly after birth” and is “related to how the brain has developed.”
