Local officials working on a coordinated response on threatened U.S. tariffs
The District of Muskoka is bracing for potential U.S. tariffs, with local officials working on a coordinated response.
At a February 18 council meeting, District Chair Jeff Lehman outlined efforts between municipal economic development officers, chamber directors, and the district’s economic team to create a central source of local information.
While a 30-day reprieve was granted, tariffs on steel and aluminum have already moved forward. Lehman emphasized that while Muskoka has little influence over U.S. trade decisions, officials are preparing to support local businesses if further tariffs are imposed.
