Near North Schoolboard affected by cyber security breach
The Near North District School Board is informing families about a cyber incident involving PowerSchool, an app used by the board and many others across North America to store student and some staff information. The breach, which occurred between December 22nd and 28th, was reported to the board on January 7th, 2025.
In response, the board activated its cybersecurity plan and is working closely with PowerSchool to investigate the breach and determine which personal data may have been affected. At this time, PowerSchool has confirmed that any accessed data has been deleted and not posted online.
The board has informed the Ontario Information and Privacy Commissioner and assures families that updates will be provided as more details are confirmed.
