The OPP Cyber-Enabled Fraud Team is warning Ontarians about scams targeting victims of cryptocurrency fraud. Fraudsters posing as cryptocurrency recovery services claim they can help retrieve lost funds but often demand upfront fees, leading to further losses.
While some legitimate companies offer tracing services, they lack the legal authority to recover funds, and their reports may not hold up in court. The OPP advises victims to report fraud to their local police, who have access to reliable investigative tools.
For protection, avoid unexpected offers, don’t share sensitive wallet details, and be wary of high-pressure tactics.
