Police remind you to bear-proof your property

With spring weather arriving, hibernating bears will be waking up and looking for food. The Huntsville OPP warns that natural food is scarce this time of year, so bears may be drawn to garbage and outdoor food sources.
Police say to prevent bear encounters, store garbage securely, remove bird feeders, clean BBQs, and keep pet food indoors. Last fall, Huntsville OPP responded to 40 bear-related calls due to unsecured waste.
For non-emergencies, call the Bear Wise line at 1-866-514-2327. If a bear poses an immediate threat, call 911.
