Police warn about illicit opioids
Bracebridge OPP are warning the public about the deadly risks associated with handling or consuming opioids, particularly fentanyl.
Police say this potent synthetic opioid is up to 100 times stronger than morphine and is often found in unpredictable forms and potencies through the illegal drug trade. Illicit fentanyl can be contaminated with other substances, making it even more dangerous.
OPP is urging individuals who use illicit drugs not to do so alone and to always have Naloxone on hand.
Naloxone can reverse opioid overdoses and is available free at pharmacies or through the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA). If Naloxone is used, it's critical to call 9-1-1, as there’s a risk of the overdose returning.
The Good Samaritan Drug Overdose Act encourages people to seek help during overdose situations without fear of legal consequences. For more information on opioid use and support services, visit cmha.ca.
