Potent ice storm could bring significant accumulation
A special weather statement is in effect for the listening area, with a potent spring ice storm expected this weekend.
Environment Canada is warning of significant ice buildup from freezing rain, with 5 to 15 millimeters of ice accretion possible, and some areas could see over 20 millimeters. Central and northeastern Ontario may also get 5 to 15 centimeters of snow and ice pellets.
The storm is expected from late Friday through Monday, bringing hazardous conditions, including slippery roads, broken tree branches, and potential power outages.
Confidence is growing in a widespread, prolonged freezing rain event, with the heaviest impact likely between Parry Sound and Kingston. Weather warnings are expected as the storm approaches.
